Director, Bureau of Administrative Services

Mary Bender has served as Director of Administrative Services in the PA Department of Agriculture since February 2015.  For the past 21 years, she has held various leadership positions within the department, including Deputy Secretary of Administration and Policy Director. From 2007 to 2011, Bender served as the Director of the Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) Program, administering the award of more than $25 million in state tax credits to farmers for conservation Best Management Practices.
 
From 2003 to 2007, she was Director of the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement and also served as Director of the Bureau of Farmland Preservation 2001 to 2003, overseeing the nationally recognized Agricultural Conservation Easement Purchase Program. 
 
Prior to joining the department of Agriculture, Bender served 10 years in the former Department of Commerce as a policy analyst and as the Director of the Bureau of Economic Policy Analysis. 
 
A native of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and a Masters Degree in Political Science from Villanova University.
