Chronic Wasting Disease Dashboard
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is the biggest challenge we face for cervid health in Pennsylvania, the commonwealth's success or failure in mitigating this threat will largely hinge on the effectiveness of outreach, education and public awareness. Collaboration between Department of Agriculture,
Game Commission and the
Wildlife Futures Program to combat CWD through jointly sharing meaningful information, in the form of visual mapping tools, in a non-biased and transparent manner, is a critical step forward to inspire the social and behavioral change necessary to slow disease spread.
This platform provides a means for hunters, wildlife enthusiasts, deer farmers, state and federal animal health officials and wildlife agencies to view information in real time and make informed decisions. This platform will be pivotal in collaborating with surrounding states to address a systemic threat that far exceeds the jurisdictional authority or scope of any once state or agency.
Thank you for participating in Pennsylvania's chronic wasting disease (CWD) surveillance efforts. CWD test results provide the Department of Agriculture and Game Commission with critical information about the health of Pennsylvania's wild and captive deer and elk populations, thereby helping us better manage these valuable resources.

Expand AllClick here for a more accessible versionCWD+Facilities: This data provides information about the CWD Herd Certification Program (HCP) and CWD Herd Monitoring Program (HMP) throughout the state, including within the Core Captive Management Zone (CCMZ) of Bedford, Blair and Fulton Counties. The CCMZ is an area in south central PA (yellow highlighted area in all three map selections) that has the highest concentration of CWD captive cervids within the commonwealth. This area contains approximately 90% of all positive captive and wild deer within the state.
Facility Statistics: This data provides the number of facilities in the commonwealth, how many are enrolled in HCP or HMP and have had positive test results for CWD. Positive facilities have had one or more CWD positive deer.
Facilities by Year: This data provides historical information about the number of facilities enrolled in HCP or HMP and by township.
This interactive dashboard tracks the Department of Agriculture's CWD surveillance efforts within Pennsylvania's captive deer and elk populations, represented by the number of captive facilities that have or have had one or more CWD positive cervids. This data is displayed across a variety of maps within this dashboard, it is of particular importance within the Established Area and Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) units and within the Core Captive Management Zone (CCMZ). Monitoring these data allows the Game Commission and PDA to work together to combat this cervid health threat.
The data are divided into seasons which run from July 1 through June 30 (e.g., the 2020-21 season begins on July 1, 2020 and concludes on June 30, 2021).
