Very Small Meat Processor Grant Program
A Pennsylvania Farm Bill Program
The Very Small Meat Processor Federal Inspection Reimbursement grant program provides funding to reimburse some portion of the costs associated with meeting federal inspection and certification guidelines during the planning and start-up periods for a very small meat processor operating within this commonwealth.
These grants will increase the supply of locally-produced meat products for local consumption by increasing the number of meat processors approved by the US Department of Agriculture for distribution of meat product.
Projects are specifically focused on helping a food processor complete the requirements to develop a Federal Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plan, using technical assistance or specialized advice from a food safety specialist. The program also offers assistance with part of the cost of equipment that may be needed to implement the plan and open the business.
- A one-time reimbursement for the cost, not including man hours, directly incurred in producing the required Federal Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points plan. If a professional consultant is utilized to develop the Federal Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points plan, reasonable costs may be reimbursed, as determined by the Department.
- Up to 50% of the actual costs of a first-time purchase of equipment necessary for compliance with the Federal Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points plan.
- Not to be used to pay or reimburse wages or salaries, any in-kind contribution to the project, or any part of the project already reimbursed by another Federal or State grant program.
Very small meat processors - existing entities with sales of less than $2.5 million and less than 10 employees or new entities that are planning to be that size.
Maximum grant amount of $50,000, limited to 50% or less of the costs of an eligible project.
