Director, Bureau of Animal Health and Diagnostic Services

Craig E. Shultz

Craig Shultz was appointed as Director of the Bureau of Animal Health and Diagnostic Services in September 2008.  Craig was in private large animal veterinary practice in Columbia County from 1976 to 1991.  He joined the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Field Operations in 1991, serving as a public health veterinarian.  He was named “Veterinarian of the Year” in 2000 by American Association of Food Hygiene Veterinarians and also received a USDA Secretary ‘s Honor Award in 2001 for his contributions to the National Residue Program.  During his 17 years with USDA Craig also served as a relief veterinarian for the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission. 

Craig received a bachelor of science degree from the New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University and doctor of veterinary medicine degree From the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.

Craig and his wife Nicole, who is also a veterinarian, reside in Benton, Columbia County, with their two sons.
