The 2023 Scooped: Ice Cream Trail Launches with Record Number of Locations

June 07, 2023 02:00 PM

This summer, Pennsylvanians and visitors can beat the heat and get a sweet treat by visiting any of the 42 creameries that make up the 2023 Scooped: An Ice Cream Trail.

Launched in 2018, Scooped: An Ice Cream Trail is a partnership between the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and its PA Preferred® program, the Pennsylvania Tourism Office, and the Center for Dairy Excellence. The trail offers a delicious way to support Pennsylvania's more than 5,200 dairy farm families and the small businesses that source from them while offering a unique opportunity to explore the commonwealth, scoop by scoop.

This year trail-goers can plan their adventure and learn about participating creameries virtually at To make the trail even sweeter, from June 1 – Sept. 9, 2023, if travelers accrue at least 600 points on their digital passport they will earn a commemmorative stainless-steel ice cream scooper! Each ice cream shop check-in is worth 100 points. Simply stop in at six shops, make your purchase, and receive a four-digit code to "check-in" and accrue your points this summer. (While supplies last and one per household). Participants who complete the challenge will be sent a notification to claim their prize and to submit a mailing address.

June is also National Dairy Month, a time to highlight Pennsylvania as the state with the second largest number of dairy farms in the U.S. and is ranked eighth in milk production nationally. The Pennsylvania dairy industry provides more than 52,000 jobs and supports the commonwealth's economy to the tune of $12.6 billion annually. Pennsylvania continues to be a leader in the production of ice cream, butter, and Swiss cheese.

To promote the trail (and for a chance to be featured on Pennsylvania's tourism channels), we're encouraging trail-goers to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #PursueYourScoops.

The Pennsylvania Tourism Office, housed within the Department of Community and Economic Development, is dedicated to inspiring travel to Pennsylvania. From iconic attractions to hidden gems, tourism in Pennsylvania helps support the state's economy and creates jobs for local businesses – all while improving residents' quality of life.
